CAPS Blog #5

How do we learn about things we have never done and places we have never been? Popular culture includes television, music, magazines and videos that are low culture and often where we learn about and get ideas about things we have not experienced ourselves. Cultural texts are popular cultural messages that are portrayed through advertisements, television shows and movies.

When we are unable to physically travel to a new place or experience something many of our thoughts and ideas about it come from popular culture and the media. Many of us are not in politics or have never been able to visit the white house or actually experience how somebody like the president lives. There are many T.V. shows these days that portray politics and white house life. We begin to imagine that this is how the government is ran and what goes on in Washington D.C.. One example of this is the show Scandal.

Whether we may think so or not scandal may be affecting our ideas of what really lies behind the scenes in American politics. When we imagine the white house or the president a lot of us think of television shows, like scandal, or movies we have seen that portray this.
