The word culture has a very complicated definition and can have a number of different meanings. A culture is a learned pattern of behavior and attitudes shared by a group of people. When studying a culture we tend to focus on the particular differences of one group from another. I have chosen to study the culture of Greek Students at UNL. Greek life is very big at this university but something I have never been a part of. As a freshman I chose not to join a sorority house. I would like to learn more about how the college experience may be different for students who belong to the Greek culture.
The Greek students at this university have a culture all their own. They have a shared language that is evident in the greek letters they wear and the names on their houses on greek row. They share a set of beliefs and values unique to each house and chapter. These men and women have events with their own houses and with the entire community of Greek students.

The Greek community at UNL seems very accessible to me. In order to find out more information and dive into the greek community I plan to visit the office of greek affairs, talk with friends that are in sororities and fraternities about their Greek culture and life. I will also plan to attend a philanthropy event hosted by one of the greek houses.
