My name is Sarah Nelson. I'm a Secondary Science Education major from Omaha. I am a junior and I'm 20 years old. I've taken three online classes before in psychology, political science, and oceanography. I enjoy online classes because I can get the work done on my own schedule and have more free time during the day.
I really love being involved on campus. I am in program where I mentor a fifth grader to become a better leader in her school and community. It is really rewarding for me to see the progress she makes, and I love being able to be a role model for her. Also, I am involved in the Honors Peer Mentoring program. When I'm not in class, working, or at meetings, I am an avid Netflix watcher. I also enjoy working out and hanging out with friends.
Last semester I took a class in multicultural education, and we touched on how different cultures and people communicate. This can greatly impact the way the classroom is conducted. Further, it changes how the teacher needs to accommodate each student. I thought this class as an elective would benefit me as a future educator by learning more about communication within and amongst cultures.
